Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@BigPotentialABA.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

ABA is often recommended for children with autism or developmental delays, but it can benefit any child who needs extra support with behaviour, learning, or social development.

If your child struggles with transitions, communication, social interactions, or managing big feelings, ABA might be a helpful support. We're happy to offer a free initial chat to explore whether it’s the right fit. Make a free initial 15-minute telephone consultation.

We work primarily with children aged 18 months–6 years. Early intervention is key, but we also support older children depending on their needs and goals.

Yes. Our team uses modern, neuro-affirming approaches that are play-based, gentle, and grounded in trust. We always prioritise consent, joy, and individual differences.

Definitely. We encourage family involvement—it helps create consistency and empowers parents with practical tools to support their child at home.

Yes. We support families who are self-managed or plan-managed.  If you're not sure how to get started with the NDIS, we can help guide you.

We offer flexible options including home visits, educational settings (like childcare, schools), and community-based sessions (like playgrounds or parks)—depending on what’s best for your child and family.

It begins with a short 15-minute phone call. We’ll get to know your child, answer your questions, and walk you through the next steps—there’s no pressure and no obligation.

That depends on your child’s needs and your family’s goals. Some children receive support for a few months, while others may benefit from longer-term, ongoing therapy. We always reassess progress together.

Yes. We support all forms of communication—spoken words, gestures, visuals, AAC devices, and more. The goal is for your child to be heard and understood in the way that works best for them.

Definitely. Many families come to us for support with everyday routines that feel overwhelming. We help break tasks down into achievable steps using positive, practical strategies.

Not at all. While many children receiving ABA therapy have a diagnosis like autism, a formal diagnosis is not required to begin support.

We often work with families who are:

  • Still navigating the diagnostic process
  • Unsure whether their child’s behaviours are typical or need extra support
  • Simply looking for help with things like communication, routines, or emotional regulation

ABA is a flexible, goal-oriented approach that can benefit any child needing help with learning or behaviour—whether or not they have a diagnosis. If you're wondering whether it’s the right fit, we’d love to chat with you and explore your child’s unique needs.

Yes—we love collaboration! We often work as part of a child’s larger team, including speech pathologists, occupational therapists, educators, and paediatricians to ensure consistent support.

ABA is highly personalised and data-informed. That means we track what’s working, adjust what’s not, and make sure your child is progressing toward meaningful, real-world goals.

It’s both! We structure learning in a way that feels fun and playful for your child while still being purposeful and goal-oriented. Most children look forward to their sessions.

Sometimes, yes—but we try our best to minimise wait times and keep you informed every step of the way. Even if a therapist isn’t immediately available, we can offer guidance and resources.

Together. We’ll talk with you about what matters most for your child and family—whether it’s saying “no,” joining group play, or brushing teeth with less stress—and design goals around that.

In some cases, yes. While early childhood support often works best in person, we do offer Telehealth check-ins, parent coaching, online consultations etc. when appropriate.

Many children look forward to sessions! We focus on making learning fun, engaging, and rewarding—often through play, games, songs, and favourite activities.

That’s okay. We take the time to build rapport gently and at your child’s pace. Trust is the first goal of any program—we follow your child’s lead and comfort.

Yes. We look at the “why” behind behaviours and help children express themselves in safer, more effective ways. We also coach parents with practical strategies for tough moments.

Just reach out! Book a quick, friendly call to chat about your family’s needs and guide you through the process with no pressure.
